Chocolate Strawberry Pop Tarts

Recipe by Alexandra McCray

Ingredients

  • 1 cup prepared powdered milk (Milkman)

  • 1 cup of regular flour, 1 cup of whole wheat flour (add more regular flour if needed)

  • 3 tablespoons melted butter or coconut oil

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons maple syrup or sweetener

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup strawberry jam or mashed strawberries

Icing

  • 1 packet Milkman chocolate powdered milk

  • 2 to 4 tablespoons water or prepared milk

  • Dried strawberries for topping

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the melted butter, sweetener, and prepared powdered milk, then stir until a dough forms. If the dough is sticky, add more flour a little at a time until it’s soft but not sticky. Chill for 15 to 20 minutes.

  2. Roll the dough out to about ⅛ inch thick and cut into rectangles.

  3. Add the strawberry jam to the center of half the rectangles. Place another rectangle on top and seal the edges with a fork.

  4. Bake at 350°F for 13 to 16 minutes, until lightly golden on the edges.

  5. Mix the chocolate powdered milk with liquid until smooth to create the icing. Adjust the liquid depending on if you want a thick spread or a drizzle.

  6. Let the pop tarts cool slightly, then add the icing and top with dried strawberries.
