Recipe by Alexandra McCray
Ingredients
-
1 cup prepared powdered milk (Milkman)
-
1 cup of regular flour, 1 cup of whole wheat flour (add more regular flour if needed)
-
3 tablespoons melted butter or coconut oil
-
2 to 3 tablespoons maple syrup or sweetener
-
1 teaspoon baking powder
-
¼ teaspoon salt
-
½ cup strawberry jam or mashed strawberries
Icing
-
1 packet Milkman chocolate powdered milk
-
2 to 4 tablespoons water or prepared milk
-
Dried strawberries for topping
Instructions
-
In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the melted butter, sweetener, and prepared powdered milk, then stir until a dough forms. If the dough is sticky, add more flour a little at a time until it’s soft but not sticky. Chill for 15 to 20 minutes.
-
Roll the dough out to about ⅛ inch thick and cut into rectangles.
-
Add the strawberry jam to the center of half the rectangles. Place another rectangle on top and seal the edges with a fork.
-
Bake at 350°F for 13 to 16 minutes, until lightly golden on the edges.
-
Mix the chocolate powdered milk with liquid until smooth to create the icing. Adjust the liquid depending on if you want a thick spread or a drizzle.
-
Let the pop tarts cool slightly, then add the icing and top with dried strawberries.
